What is a Residual Benefit?

There are two variations of this rider within the disability insurance market today. With Berkshire's residual disability rider, you have a recovery benefit for up to the entire benefit period. Berkshire does not require a loss of time or duties to pay a residual claim, and will keep paying residual benefits even after you have returned to work full time as long as you suffer a loss of income of at least 15% due to your disability, not just until you physically recover. Most of our competitors require a loss of time or duties to pay a residual claim, so once you are back to work the best you could hope for would be a small recovery benefit which may be capped at 6 months. Berkshire has an unlimited recovery benefit for the entire benefit period of the contract.
